What is Celtic sea salt?

Unlike typical mass-produced sea salt obtained through industrial methods, Celtic sea salt is hand-harvested from the pristine coastal regions of Brittany, France, and parts of Portugal. These regions have long been renowned for their eco-friendly, artisanal salt harvesting techniques that have been carefully passed down through generations. The salt marshes or “oeillets” are meticulously maintained to ensure the preservation of the delicate coastal ecosystem, reflecting a profound respect for nature.
The harvesting process has not changed in 1,200 years. No mechanical and chemical processes are used.
The salt is only 71 to 74% of sodium chloride, compared to the 98% sodium found in most other salts. This means the rest of it is comprised of bio-available minerals and trace elements, including calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese, sulphur, zinc, iodine – reflecting the flora and fauna of the ocean floor.

One of our variations is ground, fine and whiter in colour (pictured first). The other variation is coarse and more grey in colour (pictured last) .
